When is the best time to begin orthodontics?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. This will allow your orthodontist to recognize any potential problems early and correct them before they become more serious.

Early orthodontic treatment has many advantages, including:
  • Creating room for crowded, erupting teeth
  • Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth
  • Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
  • Preserving space for unerupted teeth
  • Reducing the need for tooth removal
  • Reducing treatment time with braces

It is important to remember, orthodontics is not merely for improving the aesthetics of your smile. It is also important for improving bad bites (malocclusions), which occur as a result of tooth or jaw misalignment. If a bad bite is left untreated, your smile, chewing and dental hygiene can all be negatively affected.

Contact your orthodontist to schedule your child’s initial consultation and learn of all the benefits of a healthy, beautiful, straight smile.
